School Starts Early – Mid-August (check with your assigned school for your child’s start date)
October 1 Late Enrollment ends
If you are new to New Orleans or new to public schools, we welcome you and your family. New Orleans has a unique public school choice system, where families may attend a school of their choice, regardless of where they live, based on seat availability at the time of enrollment. Mid-year placements are first-come, first-served.
If you are enrolling for the first time, visit any of our three Family Resource Centers. At the Family Resource Center, your family will speak with a dedicated School Choice Advisor about the school options available in your child’s grade. When selecting from available schools, remember to ask our School Choice Advisors about transportation, school activities, and any other factors that may be important for you and your child.
If your child is continuing at their 2016-2017 school and you are considering a transfer, you must first meet with your child’s school before visiting a Family Resource Center, to discuss your desire to transfer and to obtain a Fall Transfer Form.
