All Early Childhood seats (Infant – PK4) require verification of income, residency, age, and/or guardianship. Some programs are offered for free to families who qualify, while others charge tuition.

Verifying for Head Start

Families who submit a OneApp for a Head Start program may provide documents to verify income, age, guardianship and residency.

  • Head Start and Early Head Start applicants will receive an automated verification email with next steps once a complete application is submitted.
  • Review of application by Head Start advisor.
  • Families are contacted via email by a Head Start Advisor with next steps.

What Documents Do I Need for Head Start?
Eligibility for publicly-funded Early Childhood programs is based on factors such as the child’s age, household income, and residency. All applicants must prove eligibility prior to enrollment. Use  the checklist below to ensure you provide ALL required documents.

  • Child’s Birth Certificate
  • Parent or Guardian Photo ID
  • TWO (2) Proofs of Residency*
    ☐ Current Lease/Mortgage Statement
    ☐ Homestead exemption in the parent’s name
    ☐ Electricity/Gas Bill
    ☐ Sewerage/Water Bill
    ☐ Telephone bill
    ☐ Cable/Internet Bill
    ☐ Section 8 or HANO Voucher Statement
    ☐ Recent letter from a government agency
  • ALL Proofs of Household Income (provide all that apply)
    ☐ Proof of income for the last 12 months for  each parent or caregiver in the house
    ☐ W-2 Forms
    ☐ Income Tax Form (1040, 1040 EZ, 1040 A, 1099)
    ☐ An official letter from your employer stating:  Where parent/guardian is employed and start date  – Hourly rate of pay & frequency of pay (weekly, biweekly, monthly) – The average number of hours parent/guardian works per week./
    ☐ Termination letter for individuals who have lost employment  in the last 12 months
    ☐ Most recent unemployment compensation statement
    ☐ SSI or SSA Award Letter
    ☐ School award letter showing pell grant or scholarship awards
    ☐ If unemployed and not receiving unemployment compensation:  Parent/caregiver must submit a letter of support and  income documentation from support source

*If residency documents are not in your name, please provide two (2) of the above proofs in the name of the lessee, a copy of the lessee’s photo ID, and a signed letter from the lessee affirming that you and the child(ren) reside in the household.

The McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act is a federal law that ensures immediate enrollment and educational stability for homeless children and youth. McKinney-Vento provides federal funding to states for the purpose of supporting district programs that serve homeless students. If you believe your student may be eligible for assistance under the McKinney-Vento Act, please call (877) 343-4773.

**If you do not receive paystubs or have misplaced your paystubs, please provide a letter from your Employer, on employer letterhead (if applicable), stating the average number of hours worked per week, hourly rate of pay, frequency of pay, and place of employment. Income is calculated on a 40 hour/week. If you work fewer than 40 hours/week, please bring a letter from your Employer, per instructions immediately above.

 


 

Verifying for Non-Head Start (LA4, NSECD, PK3 Non-Head Start)

Please note: Applicants to PK3 or PK4 at Edward Hynes Lakeview must provide a gifted evaluation to NOLA PS in addition to completing the steps below.

 

Families applying to OneApp participating early childhood programs may submit documents to verify income*, age, guardianship and residency by following the process below:

  • Non-Head Start applicants will receive an automated verification email with next steps once a complete application is submitted.
  • Upload clear pictures of the entire page to ensure readability.
  • Provide all required documents by the application deadline.
  • You will be notified by NOLA-PS staff of your eligibility

*If you are only applying to paid programs, income verification is not required.

What Documents Do I Need for Non-Head Start?
